The purpose of this course is to provide students of acupuncture and oriental medicine an orientation to disease as disordered physiology. Basic cellular and system level processes will be examined to build an understanding of healing as well as abnormal functioning. Each body system will be revised to reinforce knowledge of anatomy and physiology previously acquired and more deeply understood through an exploration of select disorders. The impact of physiologic changes across the lifespan on disease processes will be distinguished. Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches to health and disease will be compared and contrasted.
