History of CCAOM

CCAOM Founder Dr. Wee Chong Tan Our Founder Dr. Wee Chong Tan received his doctorate in biochemistry (Indiana University) in 1966, then studied theology at St. John’s Hall, London and ordained at St. Paul’s Cathedral London England.

He became honorary curate at St. James Sussex Gardens Westminster and a fellow of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London in 1970.

In 1974 he was elected Life Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society in Oxford.

Dr. Tan is the founding president of the CCAOM (retired) and was also a faculty member.  From time-to-time, Dr. Tan visits the school and brings guests and prospective students for tours.

The Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine began in 1985 as the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Founded by Dr. Tan, the College was originally part of the Canadian College for Chinese Studies whose purpose was to enrich the cultural life of the community and to increase people’s awareness and understanding of the contributions China has made to the world.

In 1991 Dr. Tan retired as Administrator of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
