About Us

Located in Victoria, British Columbia, CCAOM offers a full-time and part-time course of study in traditional Chinese medicine. The core curriculum includes Chinese acupuncture and herbology, basic Western medical sciences, and other related energetic and structural means of working with the human body holistically.

The mission of CCAOM is to teach and promote Oriental medicine in order to maximize wellness and bring the philosophies of Oriental medicine to our communities. We strive to maintain our position of excellence as the oldest full-time acupuncture college in Canada and to provide a foundation that encourages a lifetime process of learning by offering:

  • a healthy learning atmosphere that is stimulating and supportive to students;
  • a top-quality education;
  • excellent teaching standards;
  • a cutting-edge curriculum.

We believe that being a healer involves going beyond mechanical expertise. Accordingly, we offer an educational program that integrates the unique medical, cultural, historical, and geographical resources of our diverse region and that brings students the tools necessary to become practitioners with superb technical proficiency and a wide range of other skills.

Traditional Chinese medicine offers a perspective and methodology that can enrich current Western medical practice. The goal of CCAOM is to teach various methodologies of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with Western medical sciences to allow for the optimum synthesis of both perspectives.

Our programs are aimed to develop professional and personal skills throughout the educational process. The curriculum allows for an educational experience which fosters innovation, integration and the further evolution and growth of Chinese medicine.

CCAOM teaches traditional Chinese medicine with the knowledge that we live in a Western culture with different patterns and presentations of illness. In addition to its focus on acupuncture and Chinese herbology, the college offers an introduction to Jin Shin Do© Acupressure, Chinese dietary therapy, Chinese massage (Tui Na) and other energetic structural therapies, so that the student can learn several hands-on methods of affecting human energy flow.

Students are taught basic western medical sciences, and a level of clinical knowledge that will allow them to integrate their practices with the mainstream medical system.

In any healing practice, knowledge of theory and technique is not enough. Skills in communication, creative approaches to clinical practice, and a nurturing environment for ongoing personal awareness and development, are equally important.

We provide three, four and five year programs which are constantly being reviewed and improved to ensure we meet or exceed the requirements of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA).

It is also our objective to provide students with the highest possible standard of theoretical and practical education so they will have the confidence and experience to launch a successful career in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Our programs prepare our students for Registered Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine licensing requirements. We have implemented a 5th year for the Doctor of TCM which came into effect in January 2005.

We are continually reviewing our program to ensure it will also meet the United States NCCAOM requirements for those planning to practice in the US.

We invite you to join with us in a dynamic educational adventure and take part in the integration of eastern and western medical traditions.
